Carlos Alcaraz mindset

In a tennis world that has long been looking for who will be the replacements of the Fabulous 3 (Federer, Djokovic and Nadal), Carlos Alcaraz’s victories are there to prove that perhaps he will be the next No.1 in the world ranking.

He said: “I would say my fitness has been important but definitely the most important part has been the mental game. I feel I have grown up so much in that part. That is why I am the World No. 9 right now and that is why I am playing at a good level. That is why I have been able to win great matches, so I think [my mentality] is the most important thing.”

His best ally is his coach who provides him with confidence. In fact, it’s certainly not easy to maintain the quality and continuity of play when you feel under pressure After the first 200 km/h forehand shots, Ferrero nods calmly, maintains self-control without getting caught up in euphoria or despondency. It can be said that this type of non-verbal relationship serves to keep Alcaraz in a stable emotional condition

Alcaraz maintains this self-control even in negative game situations, remaining confident. Even in these cases, he continues the nonverbal relationship with Ferrero as if to say, “Coach, don’t worry,” and Ferrero returns the nod here, saying, “Okay, go ahead!”

The function of man

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.”

Are you a team builder?

Team Building: The ability to develop and maintain relationships with others, encouraging collaboration and mutual support among the different parts of a team.

Being a team builder represents an essential element in a leading manager of the third millennium. Until a few years ago, in sports as in business, the communication between coach/manager and athlete/collaborator was such that it was much more important for the latter to follow the instructions given to them, but in recent years the situation has changed a great deal in both areas. The increase in competitiveness, the need to succeed, the demand for greater commitment and the need to take full responsibility for one’s own performance, together with the consequent breaking down of the hierarchical pyramid, has required a far greater level of participation, problem-solving competence and group cohesion than was the case years ago. This has required the leaders themselves to be cohesion promoters and to engage the people on the team in a relationship of intense collaboration geared toward success and personal development.

  • Reflect on the way your team operates. Does the hierarchical structure predominantly determine the rules of behavior, or is exchange and cooperation the engine that makes your group pursue results?

The team builder must know how to help athletes identify and achieve their goals and be genuinely interested in their athletic and personal development. Although winning is important or rather as Boniperti, former president of Juventus, used to say: “Winning is not important, it’s the only thing that matters”, it is necessary to foster the development of the athlete.

The basic idea is that you need to help athletes and teammates to develop independent, creative thinking, which leads them to be individuals responsible for their choices. It is necessary to develop self-discipline and learn to manage one’s time and priorities. There will be ups and downs, obstacles along the way but in the end those who survive these particularly challenging demands or have even achieved their goals what more could they want in terms of rewarding experiences?

Real Madrid history is the 12° players

Sometimes we talk about unforgettable matches. But tonight the challenge between Real Madrid and Manchester City made us live one of these sporting events that we will remember forever. I do not know how this is possible but the strength and determination of these players are are incredible. You can not explain what happened, certainly determination, desire to win and total concentration were essential ingredients but then there is something more that determines the result. It’s not just the logic of tactics but a constant attention that is based on a history, that of Real Madrid, that pushes at every moment to give value to every minute of the game. The history of Real Madrid pushes to believe in the enterprises, to fight until the last second: the history pushes and the team responds.

The athletes cannot lead themselves alone

Let’s forget that an athlete can drive himself or herself alone.

This may sound like a statement that emphasizes the dependence of athletes on the coach. It doesn’t. We find this need in the tennis players I’m following at the Tennis Roma Internazionali, but Guardiola or Ancelotti do the same for their teams. And then, perhaps, we psychologists need to revise the belief that a high level athlete can by virtue of his skills and experience manage himself or sda ola.

I always tell young athletes to watch the champions, they certainly don’t train alone, in fact the higher their level the more qualified people work for them.

The issue is quite complex. Now I just want to point out this fact, on which each of us should reflect.

10 rules to promote the movement in school

  1. Rules: establish rules that promote enjoyable and sustained forms of physical activity in young people.
  2. Environment: provide a physical and social environment that encourages and enables physical activity.
  3. Movement education: increase instruction and curricula in physical activity that value the pleasure of participating in physical activity and that help students develop knowledge, attitudes, motor skills, behavioral skills, and the confidence to adopt and maintain physically active lifestyles.
  4. Health education: increase health education and instructional curricula that help students develop knowledge, attitudes, motor skills, behavioral skills, and the confidence to adopt and maintain physically active lifestyles.
  5. Extracurricular activities: provide extracurricular physical activity programs that meet the needs and interests of all students.
  6. Parents involvement: include parents in physical activity programs, encouraging them to support their children’s participation in enjoyable and interesting activities.
  7. Staff training: promote training for staff involved in education, training, recreation, and health care that trains them in the knowledge and skills needed to perform enjoyable activities.
  8. Health services: assess and counsel youth in relation to their activity.
  9. Community programs: provide a wide range of sports activities that are attractive to all youth.
  10. Evaluation: systematically evaluate the quality of physical activity programs and services provided by the community and school.

Tennis: focus on the performance and not on results

The qualifying tournament for the Internazionali di Tennis in Rome continues. It will be important for all players to be more and more focused on their performance, their game, rather than being dominated by the score.

It means:

  1. Being focused on playing the games well without forcing yourself to make the point.
  2. Playing each point without being in a hurry to finish it.
  3. Moving fluidly and decisively in the decisive moments of the game.
  4. Prepare to serve by taking the necessary time to execute it.
  5. At the end of each point, first reduce tension by lengthening the exhalation and then reactivate for the next exchange.
  6. Give yourself brief technical instructions on how to play at that stage of the game.
  7. Always tell each other what to do and never what not to do.
  8. Have your eyes open to your opponent preparing to serve.
  9. Always keep your feet happy and your movement quick.
  10. Remember that up to the last point you can overturn an unfavorable result.

In summary, it means being focused on how you want to play without thinking about the result.

Pills of movement: A proposal of sport for all

There is still a month to go to take advantage of  Uisp “Pillole di Movimento”: an opportunity for wellness and sociality available to everyone, from the North to the South of Italy. In fact, the Uisp national campaign to combat sedentariness and promote the culture of movement, which involves 31 Uisp Committees, over 235 Italian municipalities and 370 amateur sports clubs and associations, will end on May 31. The project is funded by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Sport under the Call EPS 2020 and through the pharmacies of the Lloyds Group and Federfarma provincial circuits, partners in the project, will be distributed 480,000 packs of “Pills of movement”. The packs of “Exercise Pills” contain free coupons that will allow you to choose from a list of over 1200 sports and motor activities promoted throughout Italy. In other words, the coupon contained in the box, very similar to that of an over-the-counter drug, allows you to take advantage of a free month of physical activity and will be delivered by the pharmacist, just like any medicine.

The project was born in Bologna in 2011, thanks to a widespread network created between Uisp, the local health authorities and pharmacies involved. A winning and absolutely innovative idea, which has established itself in the territory and that thanks to this national project is launched for the first time at national level. Due to the difficulties related to the health emergency still in progress, the duration of the project has been extended until May 31.
