It will be played in Argentina the more passionate derby

The derby that divides a city and talked about for weeks before it is played does not take place in Europe, but in Argentina. At Rosario where the city is divided between supporters of the Central, the scum, and those of Newell’s Old Boys, the lepers. The team for which Che Guevara cheering against the one in which the child Messi palyed. There are no neutrals in Rosario. “You’re either a Central fan, a Newell’s fan, or you’re nothing,” said Juan Yacob, who runs a Central-themed restaurant.

What happens to the doped athletes ?

It’s news of these last days that Mauro Santambrogio , cyclist tested positive for doping , wanted to commit suicide. This episode reminds me that we know nothing of how the life of doped athletes continues. What will happen at Devis Ricciardi , track&field, sent away from the Army group, or that what it’s happened to Alex Schwazer, the Beijing Olympian, found positive shortly before leaving for London. They disappear, no organization is dealing with it and I hope they have a social environment ready to welcome them, help them to accept the blame and change their mindset and life. The sports organizations are not organized to provide services to their athletes who are experiencing difficulties that go beyond the legal sanction , while they should also provide treatment programs. Moreover, they should also provide for better management of their human resources, not to let coaches and athletes at the mercy of the doping sirens. We know that many athletes and coaches do not have the sense of social responsibility necessary to stay within the sport rules, so they need a system that, from the inside, will guide to follow them  and allow the athletes to not feel alone in the war of resistance against the shortcuts that drugs today permit. Therefore what happens to the athletes doped?

Roma-Napoli: exciting match?

The match of tonight is Roma-Napoli, the first against second in the Italian championship, and we expect a very good match between two teams who take few goals and that mark with ease. The two coaches are individuals who are not wasted in controversy between them and they are teaching players to think about one match at a time without fitted to the head of their achievements in the league. Roma have to fear of a team that has scored 10 goals so far only in the first half of the matches, which although often do not decide the game, of course, give a practical and emotional advantage . A mistake that teams must avoid is to think about what it will happen if they win, they must not bring his head to the future, especially those who will score first they have to continue to maintain the same kind of concentration had up to that time. For Napoli it will be more useful to have in the eyes the victory  with Borussia and certainly not one with Arsenal. It ‘s always best to remember the victories  rather than dwell too much on the flaws. What it can stop the game of the two teams is the fear of losing, not being used to playing high-level matches like this one. The role of the coaches i , in relation to this aspect, absolutely decisive to transmit confidence to the players as a team. The confidence with which they will start the match is dependent on them and on how the most significant players in each team will effectively interpreting their role. Have fun.

Dope on wheels: Lance Amstrong story

If we thought we knew all about the Lance Armstrong’s story, the new book “Dope on wheels” by Reed Albergotti and Vanessa O’Connell tells in detail of a life dedicated to the fraud.

The women – Armstrong never hid his doping from the (many) women in his life. His first wife, Kristin Richard, distributed cortisone tablets to the USPS Cycling team and stored Lance’s EPO in their refrigerator. When she and Armstrong divorced, she signed a nondisclosure agreement as part of a $15 million settlement.

The sex – Lance Armstrong was a notorious lothario; his teammates dubbed him FedEx, because the company’s slogan “When it absolutely, positively has to be there overnight,” described his outsized appetite for podium girls, female fans, and cycling groupies—even during his marriage. His teammate Floyd Landis remembers one night out during training camp where Armstrong ended the night in a private room of a strip club with two naked dancers and a pile of “what looked like cocaine.”

Greg LeMond –  He has always had a contentious relationship with Armstrong, whom he believed was doping from the very beginning. Armstrong, in turn, would always resist comparisons to the three-time champion, and once called him a “fat ass.” Jeff Garvey, a longtime friend of both men, resigned as president of the Lance Armstrong Foundation because attacks on the character of the retired cyclist were such routine part of the corporate culture.

UCI and a Culture of Cheating -Kathy Lemond testified that in 1999, Armstrong’s sponsor Nike paid off UCI president Hein Verbruggen to cover up a positive test. Armstrong then tested positive for the banned substance EPO two years later, but again bribed UCI into silence. During the 2006 Tour, he offered a $20,000 bounty to any rider who could ensure that Floyd Landis—now racing for a rival team—would not win.

The team - Armstrong was the de facto leader of the USPS cycling team, and he was often tyrannical and abusive. He would not allow his other teammates access to the best equipment, but was insistent that every cyclist dope. Armstrong was also paranoid about his teammates revealing his use of banned substances; he once said to his roommate Jonathan Vaughters, “now that you are doing EPO too, you can’t go write a book about it.”

More and more parents are inadequates to play their role

Today’s news that a parent forced his son to take drugs because he had become a swimmer champion  is only the latest in a series of episodes that highlight how many parents have given up not only to carry out their educational role but actually become the main exploiters to meet their frustrations. Not regret the time in when the parents played an authoritarian role  mainly versus the girls and in general do not show a lot of interest toward the males. Being parents in this period is much more difficult than in the past, because you have to know and want to shape the future of  your sons and many parents perceive this role as a tiring job or simply they lack of that sense of responsibility that they should have. It does not matter if you are divorced or not married, what matters it’s the will to play the educational role you are called to do.  Finally, we live in a society in which the appearance and not being it’s more important and where the money is almost the only parameter to show our value. Unfortunately, these cases will increase more and more .

The way as the city prevent the movement

As society prevents the motivation to move:

  • The boys of the city walking four times less than those who live in the city on a pedestrian.
  • More the adults read the news that amplify and accentuate the facts of the crime, the more are intimidated and stay at home watching  TV
  • Children who no longer go to school on foot lose one of the first moments of individual training and adventure.
  • TV, computer and internet limit opportunities for movement already reduced by the use of the car.
  • In town to walk becomes a symbol of inadequacy and of belonging to a disadvantaged class.

The business of the soccer school

Today report of the newspapers laRepubblica about the Italian soccer schools.

“At the start, the ambition of all is the bluet-shirt and this feeds the business of the soccer schools: 7,189 in Italy, impressive number when compared to middle school (8 thousand) or elementary (16 thousand).  The annual fees range from € 300 to 900  and provide revenues to the schools with many zeros. Sport clubs often small, that contribute to the children training and growth. Antonio Piccolo, instructor of the school football Arci Scampia ( three fields with synthetic grass, 500 subscribers), explains: ” the boys less good do not have to burn the dreams, but neither raise false illusions. We must teach them that in life there is more: the study, work, be better citizens . They have as reference the television or the millions of Balotelli. They play because they want to have success, they re always less those who do it for fun. Instead, the football is beautiful because you share goals with a group of friends, because it gives emotions even in Excellence and Promotion championships, Sundays with friends. It is legitimate to dream, but the boys need to be protected. First of all, from mothers and fathers, who often instead seek redemption of their lives through the children. Then from some people that roam the fields : Fifa agents are all here, all approaching the parents, all are talent scouts. In a neighborhood like ours, we have an extra duty. ”

The academies are divided into three levels of quality. 73% are basic centers. To get the status of a football school “recognized” need qualified coaches, a doctor, adequate facilities (24% of the total). Higher still are the football schools “specialized” (232,  3% ) have agreements with school institutions and a psychologist who meets parents, coaches and managers. Says professor Alberto Cei , sports psychologist: ” The biggest challenge for the clubs is to manage the parents. As long as the children 8-9 years they are quiet. Then, there is growing anxiety to have in house the new Totti and even the grandparents begin to complain.  They protest if their boys is playing in a mixed team, with the girls, they think ‘why to me?” Meetings with the psychologist are useful to build a positive atmosphere, to raise the quality of teaching .”

Italo Calvino life lessons

Italo Calvino, the great Italian novelist, would have turned 90 years in these days and today the newspaper laRepubblica  published an interview with his daughter. What struck me most is the phrase of his father that the more impressed.

“Sometimes someone thinks he/she is incomplete and he/she is only young.”

Beautiful, we should all remember when we talk to our guys.

Girls: no sports, no selfesteem

It has been presented in Milan under the patronage of the Municipality the Self-Esteem Project : “6 out of 10 girls drop out their favorite sport because they are dissatisfied with their body. Together, because no girl hang up his shoes.”

The initiative came from a study by Dove and it will be promote in 10 secondary schools in Milan, a series of 4 meetings, reserved for girls and boys between 12 and 14 years. Coordinated by Mauro Grimoldi ( president psychologists order of Lombardy ), two psychologists follow the group-class ,with the aim of encouraging the participants to develop a positive self-awareness and build a healthy and positive relationship with the body. The initiative, in the coming months will be expand to other Italian cities .

An international research , conducted this year by Dove, shows that worldwide there are many girls who develop psychological blocks due to low self-esteem . Worldwide, 60% of girls between the ages of 15 and 17 prevents normal daily activities – go to the doctor, play sports or be tested at school – because they feel uncomfortable in their own body. Chasing an unattainable model of beauty, the girls end up not express what they really are. The data obtained in Italy are particularly significant: 8 out of 10 girls do not feel good in their body , because of the stereotypes imposed by the media, society and sometimes by themselves. Only 3% of girls are considered beautiful, 45% is defined by reticence cute, 25% are worried about their own weight, and 36 % said they would feel happier if they were more beautiful. The research also shows how in Italy there is a direct link between the feeling of inadequacy, lack of self-esteem and the onset of insecurities that sometimes are likely to have a significant impact on the simple daily activities. 52% of Italian girls is not involved in sports, because dissatisfied with their body.

When appearance and negative bias go together

To assess people in relation to their appearance leads to commit big mistakes in the evaluation of their abilities. So we can have a very positive view of people who dress well, have an expensive car or are good looking. The positive that we attach to these features lead us to attribute to these people other skills, probably they are honest, intelligent, good at work and so on . There is a halo effect for which we tend to see them as more reliable than others that do not appear in the same way . This is a clear example of when looks can be deceiving and unfortunately two facts of these days we have highlighted once again how easily we let ourselves be influenced by apparent factors of life. The first fact is OCSE data for which Italians are a population of new illiterates. Indeed, we are the last countries for language skills and penultimate in mathematics among the more developed  The conclusion is tragic only one in three has skills to live in the XXI century. But apparently this fact does not seem so obvious; but it’s a country where 75 % of business owners do not read one book a year, better spend on a new home or a new SUV or their children in a private school where they will be promoted without studying. As we can compete with the top class of other countries such as Japan, Finland , the Netherlands, Estonia and Slovakia (among others) that dominate us all?

The second fact is now a case of negative bias : young Moroccan who sells lighters to live on the streets of Turin. On the basis of its appearance we tend to associate with this situation  a lack of skills due to humble work  he carries out. But this is not the case, because Khadiri Abdelmoula Rachid , 26 years old, has just graduated in civil engineering from the Polytechnic University with a thesis on “Graphene and its potential ” and how himself there are so many other great stories, that we can read about in the newspapers today . These people, unlike the two -thirds of Italians,  have the skills for living in the twenty-first century.
