Pellegrini flop: it’s time to say

Now we can say that Federica Pellegrini had never done in this period the time would be needed to win. In sports of short duration as the 200m time, the training times are predictive of the value in the race. It’s not like in precision sports where you can lose  for small errors of accuracy or gymnastics where a fall can always be done. Personally I think the coaching staff knew about her condition and the marketing needs have prevented that reality came to light. I say this without any shadow moralist because I know the value of money.

Volleyball team: Bad the first

The Italian men volleyball team has played a bad game against Poland,  particularly it has lost its mind. The most experienced player, Mastrangelo, argued with the referee and the team disbanded in the fourth set. The coach was not able to transmit will to play in the time out as he should be. This defeat does not affect the Olympic track but the absence of a positive reaction of the team must be understood and solved, otherwise it will accompany the team as a ghost, ready to spoil the game at any point during the tournament.

(Italiano) L’occasione persa di Chiara Cainero

Chiara Cainero did not perform positively in skeet, shooting. Scores of opponents were quite low, with the exception of gold medalist Kim Rhode has got the world record with 99 in 100 centers. She said the problem was not the good visibility of the plates. Personally, I think that very often the shooters in these conditions tend to try to be focus even more, with the effect becoming less reactive in their technical action. I do not think this is a technical problem but mental and perhaps more attention to this aspect could help. The important thing is to react and start over. Good luck.

To manage the olimpic final

To know how to manage the Olympic final is the incredible into the incredible. First, because it is an exceptional result to get it, then why should not get mentally exausted. It may seem strange that it could happen but it happens more often than one might imagine. It was probably the case of Arianna Errigo in the fencing final,  for Scozzoli in swimming and Occhiuzzi in saber. The athlete may not be ready for this final test, there has been exhausted for that goal and he/she does not have any more. These athletes would be useful to a sports psychologist who helped them find their mental energy required to fight at their best and to be determined to win. My personal memory goes back to when an athlete before the final Olympic in shooting, which was entered in the top six, told me he had nausea, which had no more energy and did not know what to do. My response was to remind him in a few minutes all he had done in previous years, the sacrifices to achieve that goal and that was the moment to go and do what he knew. He did it and won the silver meda.

Italy win: archers and shooting

Tesconi and the archery team  gave us the first two medals, one silver and one gold. Concentration and stress management are the keys to these results. This is evident by the scores. Arc: Italy 219 points and USA 218. Shooting: Tesconi three points on more than 500 from the first and 1/2 point ahead of third. Incredible concentration of these guys.

The art for sport culture

Tomorrow, July 27th, at the Dray Walk Gallery (the Old Truman Brewery) in the heart of London, Fabrica presents “Doping Thrower”, an art installation to promote the culture of sport ethics devised and executed by the Cuban artist Erik Ravelo.

Fun at Olympics

I share with you these video received by email.

These Olympic swimmers aren’t exhibiting any signs of anxiety… a wonderful example of how such an important event should also be fun!  Might be a great video to share with athletes and teams.

The fitness matrix

Thoughts are always a big problem

The worst problems for an athlete are coming from his/her thoughts. Images and words often invade the mind at inopportune moments.  Thoughts can only have the duration of one moment but in many sports like shoothing, track&field, gymnastics , diving, swimming  can destroy the performance. When an athlete is in the optimal zone, the mind is empty and he is devoted to do those actions for which he has been trained so much, without even thinking of the result. To achieve this goal she must have trained mentally for a long time .
