Doping or commitment

I often wonder who has the sense to keep talking about excellence in sport when continually discover how doping has got into this world and how the ethics in many athletes confuse with the code of silence. The ethics in these cases is to protect another athlete who dopa, according to a pathological definition of morality, according to which you must protect your environment regardless of the actions are illegal and immoral. The main reason given to justify this approach to doping consists in thinking that it’s not possible to excel without this help. Taking this point of view, those who oppose, condemning this kind of sports culture, he is considered a moralist who wants to impose  anachronistic rules, since all dope. Domina Embé philosophy: “Have you seen that that athlete took doping”, “Embé that will never be, so they do it all, if you want to win there is no alternative.” This philosophy is characterized by two main ideas: “So much the worse, the better” and “They’re all thieves.” When this view is widespread among adults, many have begun to take drugs to participate in Master events; there are cases in which parents have asked the doctor a “little help” for their son, increasingly gyms have become places of sales of illegal products and there are doctors and physiotherapists who have undertaken this type of advice to increase their earnings. It’s instead starting from the wide distribution of this bleak conception of sports culture that we must respond and continue to talk about excellence. Regards the absolute level of sports performance, depending only on the commitment and dedication of the athlete, prepared by teachers and programs as value. We must not give in to the philosophy dell’Embè because this devastates our young people and their teachers. The doping in sport and any illegal action must be fought by spreading the culture of commitment and the right to dream that it is possible to achieve any result. We have to legally pursue who uses doping but at the same time we need to change this culture of sport deadly. Children and young people are our future and they have to learn that they can have success thanks to their efforts. We must do more and better because the coaches are not only professionally competent but totally involved in a  work ethic vision of their work.

The movement is at the base of the children development

In the early years children need to learn the basic movements and the purpose of motor activity is to teach in a fun way how to move effectively and efficiently, in a safe environment and with the knowledge of what are doing. To teach the young to achieve this result is as important as the acquisition of literacy and numeracy.

Specifically, from three to six years, children need to acquire the basic motor skills (eg, bend the legs) that represent the foundation of all physical activity and the combination of which come the main skills of each sport. These are the years in which must to be developed the following skills: step (gait), bending the legs, move quickly forward, bending, pushing, pulling, rotating, and do a twist. The complex movements are composed of these different basic elements and the child’s actions will be adequate if he will be able to integrate these different motor sequences. For example, jumping is based on the movement of the bow in the legs while in the frisbee to this movement you add the push and rotation. In every sporting gesture, even in the most complex, are traced these basic motor patterns. Therefore, if a young has not learned to master them, the learning of other movements could be compromised or reduced.

It’s not, however, just a matter of teaching in a literal way the basic movements, because each form of schematization implies an oversimplification of reality motor and a reduction of the experiences of movement. It’s therefore necessary to provide to the children the opportunity to experience the largest number of behaviors. For example, from the age of two years the parents can already teach to go in-line skating, biking or climbing if they are willing to teach their children how to do. This points to the crucial role that adults, in this case, the parents play in helping or hindering motor development, including psychological and social implications related to it. Overprotected children who at three years do not go up alone on the swing or do not walk just because it is more convenient to take them or leave them at home watching television, are examples of how the parents can develop a daily reduction of motor skills and develop a sedentary lifestyle .

The children are the main architects of their development processes, they are:

  • Movements-related: refers to the actions and repetitions of actions, exercises that the children make in their environment in which they  live and the perception of awareness that comes. We think of several ways to get on and then off, for example from a sofa, the children put in place through a large number of repetitions. They test so the basic motor patterns, each time in a different way from the previous one, compose them spontaneously in different sequences and through repetition reach to develop a motor skill specific.
  • Cognitive-affective: the children know the properties of objects, experiences them, put them in relation with themselves, thus enriching their knowledge of the world and the way they relate to it.
  • Social: learning can be accelerated through social interaction, which occurs primarily through language. In this respect, the interaction with an adult who observes the children in this action will be positive if it is intended to encourage and guarantee them to practice in a safe environment. It will become negative and, therefore, obstructing the experience if the adult intervenes to inhibit the action or to make it too easy. Consequently, the opportunity to gain experience and social interactions form the context within the children carry out the actions.

The balance and the consequent adaptation is reached through the processes of assimilation and accommodation. The assimilation consists in incorporating the new elements that enrich the motor and mental patterns, going to incorporate the data of the experience as a function of the internal structures that already exist. The accommodation, however, is the process by which the internal structures are changed by external experiences, enabling the children development processes to develop a higher evolutionary levels. Therefore, assimilation is a process of preservation and enrichment of skills while the accommodation  represents the innovation in the development process.

In conclusion, the children motor  evolution go through a better adaptation to the environment. The children evolve from the primary movements through the maturation of the nervous system, the experience and the social interaction that make up the ground on which it operates the balance factor. This factor allows the children to act on the environment through the psychological and motor skills they have, but at the same time they are changed depending on the situation.

No miracles in sport

Sport is not an environment in which miracles can happen. I was at the Shooting World Championship with the national team of Malta and it’s exactly what happened. The shooters have provided performance at their maximum level, but there were no miracles. In the olympic trap, the shooters have achieved the best performance of the last 10 years with 118 and 117 out of 125. While the junior Maltese athlete got the 13th place out of 65 participants. In the specialty junior double trap, Nathan Xuereb has finished in 1st place in the qualification with 139 out of 150 and in the final came 4th. These results permit to explain that the journey to excellence is long and you get with improvements that are first established in training. The real chance  to reach results of the absolute level is build by high scores did in training and participating in the most of  international competitions. In these situations, the technique and mental preparation of athletes is tested, allowing them to become aware of their strengths and knowing how to engage in the most important competitive moments. For these reasons there are no miracles, but a lot of work in which technique and mind are trained together with the support of the coach and the sport psychologist.

Giovanni Pellielo: A legend of the olympic sports

Today in Granada Giovanni Pellielo won for the seventh time the right to participate in the Olympics. He finished 3rd at the Trap World Championships with an exciting track. In the qualification rounds, he scored 124 out of 125, finishing first with two other shooters. In the semi-finals took 14 out of 15 clay targets He had unbalance with another shooter, he immediately make a mistake and he competedi n a race against another shooter for the third place. Again 15 targets, he hit all the targets, while his opponent misses 3. With this result he also won the Olympic Quota to Rio at the first opportunity. If, as is likely, he will go to Rio it will be his seventh Olympics, where he won 3 medals so far. He’s the most successful athlete in the history of shooting, having also won 4 world and dozens of international competitions. He’s 44 years old.

“The Sun Inside” … football

In 2012 was released in theaters, “The sun inside” a movie by Paolo Bianchini from a few known, a good movie, one of those films that do not go to see because bombarded by advertising, but you go to see because someone told you about so well you can not do without it, one of those movies not fueled by large retailers, who lives in the mouth. Especially  “the sun inside” is a must-see film for those who want a different kind of football history, a story of baby footballers too often forgotten. The film between the various issues addressed also speaks of trafficking of young African footballers.
The director Paolo Bianchini thus speaks in an interview (Azzolini for fantagazzetta.com): “for Eto’o, there are twenty thousand African children taken from villages and brought to Europe, the alleged international prosecutors charged a small fee for families, and bring with them the boys, thirteen, not more. If you auditioned these guys are bad, most of them do not know anything. They are simply abandoned, perhaps to a gas pump, as it happens to the protagonist of the film. ”

It ‘a plague which mainly France, but from which Italy is absolutely free, Bianchini says, “because it is true that the law is clear (before the age of an African boy can be transferred in a sports club of the European only accompanied by his family, at the expense of society, ed.), but FIFA can not monitor all the individual displacements, which are thousands. Also because often these auditions take place for smaller companies, or amateur. If they go bad, these so-called agents, which are actually smugglers of football, you do not create problems to leave these guys in the middle of a road. ”
The sun inside is a story about football, friendship and solidarity. The story of Thabo, an immigrant originally from a small African village and Rocco, fourteen of Bari. Their story intersects and is the setting for a true story, that of two Guinean boys, Yaguine and Fodè, they write a letter addressed to “large “in the European Parliament. The letter speaks of the troubled African continent, children’s rights are denied, the desire for redemption and civil progress expressed by the younger generation. It is 1999, the two go to the airport and are caught by hidden compartment in the undercarriage of a plane: destination, Brussels, with the intention to deliver their letter directly into the hands of the representatives of Europe. When the plane lands in Brussels, a technician discovers embraced the bodies frozen to death Yaguine and Fodè, next to the letter addressed “To their Excellencies.”
It is a film that anyone who is in football should watch, a movie that makes you think, that does enjoy another side of football and especially a film that should be seen by many “pseudo-attorneys” that more and more often and more quickly turn around to small players.

Shooting world championship: non room for the distractions

It started today in Granada the Shooting World Championship. In this first day, the shooters have done two rounds which showed once again that this is a sport in which there is no room for mistakes. On 5t0 clays fired there are 12 athletes with the maximum score, they have not made a mistake and 24 who have committed only one, out of a total of 145 participants. Six shooters will go in the final  and  after this first day there are 36 shooters that can realistically aspire to this result. The race is on three days and tomorrow there will be two more rounds. It will be ready for the competition who will sleep well tonight and tomorrow morning will think that it’s another day and will be focused only on the first and so on for 25 times. Woe to put further pressure but woe come even thinking “I’m shooting as well today.” Who will stay focused only on what is going to do and nothing else tomorrow night happy.

#IWillWhatIWant

#IWillWhatIWant is not only a commercial that advertises a famous brand of sports but is part of a campaign of Under Armour to support the women empowerment. The protagonist of  1 minute video is Gisele Bündchen, during an hard training  to pungiball. Another video has instead as a testimonial the dancer Misty Copeland. I think it’s a brilliant campaign, which is placed in a broader context of actions carried out by this company. The other campaign that promoted is called Protect This House. I WILL talking about the house of sport.

One million arm: a story of talent transfer

I saw the movie “One million arm” which tells about the story of a US visionary manager willing to discover talent for baseball in young people who practice other sports. He believes that India is the country still less exploited for this search and convinces a rich Chinese to fund this research. Who will throw a baseball ball 80 miles will attend a training camp and then the two best athletes will win a prize and will move for a year in the United States to train. At the end of the year the two Indian athletes fail to pass the audition organized with the best baseball scouts and the story seems failed. The manager, however, obtains financing for another year, after which instead the two boys convince the experts with their launches. Conclusion, they have been the first two Indians to play in the Major League.

This is a true story that tells how the search for talent is still anchored in  too rigid scientific stereotypes that prevent that stories like this are much more frequent. The British have understood for a long time and over the last 8 years have enriched their national teams of about 100 athletes using a system like the one described in the movie.

In Italy, I’m trying to introduce this concept but sports organizations are rigid, the biomechanicals and coaches believe that we should always start from the children and basically everyone wants to protect is knowledge rather than to try new paths. Patience!

Mille cinguettii per 100 anni di CONI

Gianni Bondini

Absolutely Free Editore, 2014, 175p.

http://www.absolutelyfree.it/

The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) celebrated this year 100 years and Gianni Bondini wanted to retrace this period with a current style. “To flash” writes himself like Twitter but without respecting the rule of 140 characters, too few to make himself understood. But  the purpose was this: to attract young people, the people of social networks to our sport history. The first two chapters cover the 400 years prior to the CONI foundation and we discover, for example, that football in 1400 was a combat sport with two teams of 27 players and 6 referees for a game that could have a duration of a day. That the challenge of Barletta in 1503 can be considered as a team competition. Or that in 1423, Vittorino da Feltre organized a university campus where the rich young men studied and practiced sport, because “the mind develops in harmony with the body.” While in 1519, is published in Venice the “Encyclopedia of exercise” and the United States to cancel the traditional British rugby turns it in American football and cricket in baseball. But these are just some of the valuable information that we find in the 11 chapters, presented more in a few lines, never more than 10/12. Bondini produces a repetition knowledge probably known only  by sports historians and ignored by the multitude of  coaches and managers. Who knows for example that the newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport was published initially on Mondays and Fridays on green paper and yellow to stand out, while from January 2, 1899 comes in pink. Anyone complains today that athletes are often left alone, he’s right if you think with the mind of today, but we may find out that it was much worse before. At first Olympic Games in Athens , officially did not attend any Italian. It is not true. Carlo Airoldi came on foot from Milan, 1338 km, but he did not compete in the marathon because in a race won 2 Italian Lire and for this reason he could not be called as amateur. Of doping it was spoken in 1904 for the Games in Saint Louis, derived from the English word “dope,” which describes a stimulating drink for the horses. I could go on with many other news, the book is full of them, that we can read with great pleasure, because tweets are written with a great sense of humor. I want to conclude by saying that it’s a book of culture, it tells what was and what is now the sport organized by CONI. It ‘s a book stimulating curiosity and more knowledge as tweets do not allow in-depth and not surprisingly, the first  Twitter of the book is entitled: #Buy sports books. These are the words that Giulio Onesti said the March 8, 1948 offering of his own pocket  80,000 Lire to the National Sporting Library.

The face of those who want to win

This is the face of those who want to get out of a bad moment and win the game. (Italy volleyball team was losing 2-0 against France, then it managed to overturn the result, winning 3-2, thanks to the inclusion of players who wanted to win, like the setter Baranowicz).
