Capello: simple and right ideas not said in Italy

It takes a great coach working abroad to say how things are.

“‘Why I do not want more’ go back to Italy? Because we are a country that is always looking for excuses not to find solutions to problems, –  said Capello exclusive to Rai Sport – we are a people that remedy, and not decides, we are politicians who do not do anything with a certain decision, watching to his chair and garden. On criticisms of Antonio Conte for the fine imposed on his Juventus for the choirs of children against Udinese goalkeeper Brkic, the coach of the Russian national team says, “What Conte said  does not interest me. We have to educate the kids, take them to the stage and teach them not to do those things. The guilt regards those accompanying the children, persons responsible to prevent certain things happen. The speaker of the stadium, for example, could do something. “

Invictus

I’m the captain of my soul

Nelson Mandela

“During my lifetime I have dedicated myself to this struggle of the African people,” Mandela said. “I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die.”

Mistakes can be as allies

Those who want to improve in any business should be aware that if they want to achieve this goal, they should definitely learn from mistakes. It’s a phrase that it’s often repeated by those who are responsible for the training of young, but seldom they explain how to do and more often I have heard from a coach: “You never learn.” The athletes have two important allies : their skills  and the errorsthey commits, both are extremely significant for the improvement .

Everyone is convinced that the skills of the young athletes represent their strengths, skills that are showed in each field where they train or compete .

But mistakes can be regarded as allies?

Of course they are! As mistakes are the only way to train yourself to get out of troubles and to coach attention and emotions to remain positively oriented success even in those moments.

The young male and female athletes need to be mentally trained to take this attitude, without which they cannot develop their full potential.

Are too old the ethic rules?

At least 10 years ago in a publication of the Italian Football Federation dedicated to football, school and education we wrote .

Whatever my role in the sport , even that of a spectator , I pledge to:

  • Make each game , no matter the stakes and the importance of the event, a special moment, a kind of celebration
  • Conform to the rules and the spirit of sport practiced
  • Respect my opponents like myself
  • Accept the decisions of the referees and judges sports, knowing that, like me, have the right to error, but they do everything to commit
  • Avoid aggression in my actions, in my words and in my writings
  • Do not use tricks nor deceit to gain success
  • Remain worthy in victory as in defeat
  • Helping other sports with my presence, my experience and my understanding
  • Help any athlete injured, whose life is in danger
  • Really be an ambassador of the sport, helping to enforce around me the principles established here

But now we hear that saying “S… ” is just a word like any other because it is widely used in everyday language and so it is not offensive. It’s clear, the guys who insult the players are not delinquents as those that football has accustomed us to see, and who are not prosecuted. This does not mean that children should be taught the good manners and to behave in public, primarily by parents.

Tom Daley could not be happier

British Olympic diver Tom Daley has revealed he’s in a relationship with another man in an emotional YouTube video. Daley, 19, says in the video, “Come spring this year, my life changed massively when I met someone and it made me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. And that someone is a guy.”

Is this the respect we teach our children?

Yesterday during Juventus- Udinese “for once, no choirs discriminatory or firecrackers or smoke. But there have been the wrong notes, among the 12.000 young of Piedmontese schools and football schools. A bad examples demonstrate that plagued the very young, were distinctly heard the boos when the speaker read the formation of Udinese. Besides, more frequently, here is the worst ‘Oooooooh, shit!’ that has accompanied many actions of Udinese goalkeeper, Brkic. Specifically, from South bend, ‘kingdom’ of Juventus ultras.”

These episodes tell of a negative sports culture  that it’s spreading already among children  and this scares me because obviously adults find it difficult to teach values such as respect for opponents, supporting the team without expressions against the other team. School, football and parents should deal this problem with seriousness and in a practical and systematic way, instead of going in separate way or turn a blind eye criticizing each other.

12.000 children to the stadium against violence

Waiting to take place in North bend, which it will help to make the incredible number of 12,200 children who will see Juventus – Udinese, pupils in some schools around Turin have been to the J- Museum. The house that collects the history of Juventus. A special day for these young students in the epic encounter with Juventus followed Mariella Scirea and Fabio Grosso. “Give yourself objectives – has advised the former defender and current coach of Juventus Primavera -. In my professional career I thank those life masters, they have always insisted on the concept of objectives. And thanks to those teachings, though before I made my debut in A, then won the National and then won a World Cup. And again, be humble, know your limits, but also your talents.” Mariella Scirea instead remembered those evenings spent studying with Gaetano: ” After dinner we sat in front of a text of Pascoli or Leopardi, even when Gaetano was very tired after a workout. He was stimulated to continue his studies to improve his communication with journalists, and more generally  he said that education is always important.”It permits to express the idea in any context we can find,” completed Grosso.

Check if you have the knowledge to be sport psychologist

I am often asked what it’s needed to know in order to define a psychologist expert in sport psychology. So I propose a list of knowledge and abilities and people look at me surprised as if it should be easier, instead I complicate their life by highlighting the complexity and the many facets of this work. Other times I say more simply to return when they are able to cite at least 10 names of experts in sport psychology and they will be able to talk about their work. Unfortunately many people think to be able to work in sport psychology, from motivators that are hardly aware of some aspects of psychology, to coaches who feel themselves psychologists, psychologists who do not want to invest in specific training. We live in a jungle in which any professional can do everything but we have to resist and build a professional who has strong scientific basis and it’s connected to what is being done in the world. In this regard, the American Psychological Association has proposed on the site of the Div 47 -Psychology of sport and exercise a short questionnaire to assess our knowledge and preparing for a future in this field: Read it and understand what it takes to do this work with competence.
