Iosefa Idem and Alessandra Sensini are certainly two myths of Italian sport. Not only have they won so much in their athletic career but at the age of 47 and 42 years are again to be protagonists of tLondon 2012. The question that should concern everyone is where they find the will and strength to continue to be who they are. We are faced with two outstanding examples, endurance sports in which the consumption of the body is exhausting, are the living proof, if ever proof were needed, that there are no male or female sports, and finally show that the inner motivation can be a bottomless reservoir that continues to give energy and meaning to what began as simply the desire to excel through the youthful passion for sports.

Da noi sono più popolari Federica Pellegrini o Francesco Totti. Iosefa Idem va sui media solo se fornisce prestazioni eccezionali. E’ un vero peccato, che ci dice quanto siamo occupati non dal valore della prestazione ma piuttosto dal ritorno mediatico che ne può derivare. Non è sufficiente essere un campione, bisogna anche essere interessanti per gli sponsor. Il gossip sulla Pellegrini ne è una dimostrazione “scientifica”. La Idem rappresenta un’eccezione che varrebbe tutte le parole su Pistorius o su Bolt. “Nothing is impossible” però non si addice per questa atleta immensa. Peccato per noi e mille volte grazie a lei per quello che fa, nonostante non interessi ai grandi sponsor, tranne forse il giorno della gara. Questo è il mondo in cui viviamo, per andare sui giornali bisogna vincere e trombare a go-go. Oppure appartenere a quei pochi sport ricchi (moto, auto, calcio e golf) per cui è scontato stare sulle pagine ogni settimana. Che schifo!
