Technical trainer or teacher

Returning to the reasoning on the role of teachers, coaches in sport, experience has taught us that they usually don’t ask kids what mistake they made and how they could avoid it.

The other day I asked a tennis player how he knew he was ready to serve, the first response was “dunno!”. Second question. so what is the point of being prepared to serve if after this action you don’t know if you are ready? Same answer. Most of the time, they take up the available time simply because they were told to wait and not serve immediately. If left free to do what they want, no one would take a break between one point and another because they are ignorant of the meaning, for most it is just that time needed to go and pick up the ball and return to the baseline.

When you point this out to the kids they often tell you that they were told they should take some time to recover and maybe think about something, but the kids don’t do that.

The reason why boys and girls don’t follow these suggestions lies in the fact that no one corrects them if they don’t follow this approach. Therefore, they think that if this attitude of theirs is not corrected it means that it is not important, so no one is prepared to serve or respond in this way.

In this simple way, tennis coaches and similar examples can be found in every sport fail in their role as teachers and limit themselves to the role of technical trainer.
