Psychology in sports: from daily news to personal growth

Psychology is now constantly present in online newspapers and social media. If we read Repubblica.it today, we find:

Svilar (Roma goalkeeper): “I’m the best? I don’t think about numbers, they can only distract you.”
He saved three penalties for Roma, leaves Turkey’s training camp, and attacks Montella: “No desire to win.”
Tennis anti-doping: free lawyer, money, and psychological support for the accused.
Skiing, Goggia confesses: “I had forgotten about Sofia — life isn’t a race at the starting gate.”

These are just a few examples where sports topics are expressed in psychological terms. This should not be surprising, since every human choice and action arises from more or less conscious decisions based on one’s personality and self-confidence. We know that people want to feel self-determined, aware that improvement comes only through their own commitment to a specific activity — regardless of the mistakes they make while learning and optimizing performance — and that achieving this result requires spending time, sometimes a lot, staying focused on the goals they have set for themselves.

To develop this approach to learning and perform, it is necessary to improve mentally; consequently, the intervention of a professional — a psychologist specialized in performance psychology — can be of great help.
