Valentino Rossi: an exceptional story of our days

In the history of sports, serial winners are not numerous. They are, in fact, those who provide exceptional performances, which are by definition rare events. They in defiance of this rule have performed in this way very often. Valentino Rossi belongs to this small group of athletes. It’s a story to remember and to teach, not to spread an idea of super-man, but to explain how it is possible to go down this road and be victorious. People emerge because of their talents. Aristotle already said when he wrote that “if there is someone who stands out so much for the excellence of his gifts that the gifts of all others are not comparable to his, he can no longer be considered part of the polis: it is in fact evident that he is like a god among men”. Often people talk about these talents, and it is easy to attribute a young man who rides a motorcycle to his lack of fear and his enjoyment of risk. When it turns out that it is not true that those who have no fear win more than others, then it is easy to run out of explanations and take refuge in the more comfortable “that boy has something more”.

What differentiates Valentino Rossi from his other colleagues, all high-level athletes: motivation. Mind you, we are all motivated, as Arrigo Sacchi says, motivation is like strength, everyone manifests it to some extent, so there is sufficient motivation, strong, extraordinary. Only those who manifest this kind of extraordinary motivation will be able through training to continue to improve and achieve excellence. It means, every day, expressing passion and perseverance at the highest levels that a human being can manifest. This is Valentino Rossi, an exception, who has not stopped living his work with this intensity and continuity. This attitude has entailed not only having the pleasure of facing the challenges of the race, but also continuously seeking those stimuli that have helped him in these long years to maintain an intensity of commitment that is almost unique and in any case the heritage of few athletes in the world.

Valentino Rossi is the expression of what we are not but we want him to exist. That’s why we like to consider him a hero, an exceptional person for his performances but also a friend with whom to share moments of life. The enthusiasm that he generates among his fans, present in every part of the world, indicates that he has been able to transmit a message that goes beyond differences and that unites people who are so different under the banner of the passion generated by his feats. We should not be surprised, we have always had the need to identify ourselves with heroes that give us a reason to live those emotions that our everyday life does not allow us, feeling part of a group that shares the same joys.I don’t see any other heroes on the horizon, we will miss him.

Valentino Rossi fell into Marquez’s trap

Around Valentino Rossi in the last week it has been created the opportunity for the perfect storm which triggered in the race, having its epilogue with the fall of Marquez. It was predictable? Yes, it was. It was avoidable? Maybe. The contenders are a group of young adults, professionals, who have turned their love for motors and the speed in work and they c to those ompete to establish who he’s the fasstest and the best in the world, together with their teams of technicians, managers , companies, working to put them in the best position to fulfill these dreams of glory. These are young talents willing to take any risk in order to win and the curves are the place of the duel. Valentino Rossi is the pack leader of this group of young opponents, others want to take his place, and for a while they succeeded, then he came back and now tbefore the last race he is leading the championship. Only one of the best he can challenge him, not Lorenzo who competes to win the championship, would be too risky, it’s the Marquez job ,who is angry with him because he has taken away in the race for the win and so they clash at Sepang at the rate of fifteen passes, only nine in a lap. Difficult to react calmly to these Marquez provocations without any reason and Rossi fell into the trap of accepting this challenge, that it could end only if the other fell down and this is what happened. Mike Webb, the race director said that from the images “it was not possible to determine whether or not Rossi has hit Marquez with a kick” and that Marquez has certainly provoked Rossi albeit within the limits of the rules. The fact is that Marquez wanted to show that if he can stop Rossi and then to assert its leadership on the circuit; “A prank” except that in this way he was altering the  race and the world outcome, that in any case he saw him defeated. Previously he had done nothing to prevent being overtaken by Lorenzo, the main rival of Rossi for the world title. Marquez had nothing to lose by doing the bully against Rossi, the worst in the duel would fall and it would be passed to the victim and Rossi like the champion  that can no longer win without committing misconduct. Nothing to do with the reason, it was a clash of emotions at high speed. Valentino Rossi still had everything to lose in accepting this duel, if it was falling over, if he committed misconduct as well, if he was behind and waited patiently had a chance to cool the challenge and continue the fight for the final success. This reasoning is very difficult to do so while dueling with your opponent. It can be previously programmed. If I know Marquez wants to pay me, I have to prepare a plan of the type: “And if that happens … what I decide to do?” This is what I expect from a champion like Valentino Rossi, the planning of mental adverse situation that today, given the context highly emotional that it’s determined, may occur. In this case, he might ask (or those of his team could advise him): “If I feel provoked what is reasonable to do?” Everyone is free to make their own choices, the important thing is not to fall into the trap built by opponents and be able to say at the end of the race to have competed exactly as it was been planned. Unfortunately this did not happen and now Valentino Rossi will have to decide what to do, personally I hope that he races.

The unbelievable Valentino Rossi

No words to talk about the Italian legend Valentino Rossi held off defending champion Marc Marquez to win the Dutch Grand Prix and extend his MotoGP championship lead to 10 points.

If Roger Federer & Valentino Rossi show that talent is ageless

“Yeah, I’m still here,” sings Vasco Rossi and the same they say Valentino Rossi and Roger Federer. Both came second, proving once again to be worth the first and second place in the world ranking. Many of them have given up for dead on many occasions, stating that they did not know winning no more, they were old or the physical was not  holding them more.

Probably these objection for a while time were true, but any athlete goes through moments like these, often the champions exceed them by changing something in the way they train and live competitions. Most likely the other sink, because they use these negative moments as an excuse to withdraw, because of something they consider superior to them. People often focus their comments on their age, as if it was an essential limit, a characteristic to which we must surrender.

I heard to say: “Federer is old and no longer able to hold that little exchange, otherwise he loses the point.” But how many would like to have this trouble just to be second in the world? They also say that because of this threshold has had to change how you play. True, but why interpret this change as a negative connotation? And instead to emphasize his determination to change to stay on the top of the world ranking. The same it was said until last year for Valentino Rossi: “Why does he not withdraw rather than collect disappointing results?”

The chorus of “why he/she does not abandon” has been told also about other sport champions. In Italy Giovanni Pellielo, in shooting, after three medals in three different Olympics, in London, at age 42, he did not enter the finals and also here the same voices, he has not noticed them, he has trained and the following year again won the world championship. Valentina Vezzali, 41, fencer, she won everything repeatedly, and she wants to go to Rio. Not to mention Andrea Pirlo and Gigi Buffon and the dream they are living in these days with Juventus. We have to evaluate these men and women for their performances but not to the age. Above all we have to learn from them, because they are an example of fighting mentality in the face of difficulty and humility in dealing with the daily sacrifices, that are needed to return to excel in their sports, without being sure to succeed in this venture.

Immense Valentino Rossi

The Doctor is already thinking about to give the assault at the 10th world title of his extraordinary career. “It’s been a very good season because I was able to greatly improve my speed and results. If we compare them to last year are very important, because I have to decide whether to continue or stop – Rossi said during the press conference of presentation of the Valencia GP  -. I enjoyed it a lot, I had very good races and had some good tussle and we got to this final round in Valencia where we will fight with Jorge for the second place in the championship, which it’s not the first, but it is always important. I have to concentrate on the weekend and the race, trying to be competitive even if it’s a track where I met some problems.” The think, however, goes to the next season and Rossi makes no secret of his ambitions: “The title? I think that next year will not be impossible.”

Bravery and humility

The coach of the All Blacks recently said at a conference that the warrior mentality of his players is based on the balance betweeny braver and humility: to be able to do extraordinary things but also recover quickly from mistakes, knowing how to quickly raise and win.

This skill distinguishes the from top athletes from the other talented athletes. Examples are:

Roger Federer changing is playing style to continue to remain at his level by compensating the physical limits with an increase of the effectiveness of the service and with more frequent descents to the net. Change to reduce the limits and win.

Valentino Rossi this year returned to win at MotoGP after  a long time, setting the record for oldest winner, he has not given up this opportunity and at the end he succeeded.

Tiger Woods from 60th in the world rankings instead retire in three years he returned to be #1

Giovanni Pellielo lost the London Olympics but the following year he won the world championship and he has already qualified for the Rio

Learn from them! Not just the talent it takes courage and humility.
