The defeats and the tough times have many fathers, too often we see athletes on an athletic field rather than on a tennis court or pool not showing the enthusiasm of staying on the field despite the difficulties. This is one of the secrets of who claims him/herself the ultimate commitment. We must not let go to common errors just because the morale is dropping, we have to train ourself to maintain a high level of mental readiness. Be focused requires a great mental effort, but only if we are predisposed to do it we can know our limits.
The athletes must always remember that what happened first determines what will happen after. So that the emotional state at a given time will determine how will compete immediately after. We should not use as an alibi our mistakes or capabilities of the opponent, we must always be focused on skills and on what it needs to be done. This should be the mental approach to the race, after which each sport requires a specific approach for responding to the needs that requires.

Per ogni tennista è necessario sapere riconoscere a cosa presta attenzione durante la partita. Pensa come giocare o a fare i punti? Pensa a correre e a buttare la palla dall’altra parte o pensa che il suo avversario è fortunato? Pensa che oggi è una giornata storta o ragiona, anche semplicemente ma ragiona. Tu che tennista sei?
Per essere concentrati durante gli scambi di gioco è necessario predisporsi a questo impegno durante le pause di gioco. E’ necessario possedere una routine stabile ed efficace che permetta al tennista di essere pronto nel momento del servizio o della risposta. Le pause più lunghe quando si è seduti rappresentano un altro momento importante per ridurre le tensioni mentali dannose, sostituendole con un atteggiamento che predispone al gioco. Verranno discusse le tecniche mentali che possono essere utilizzate in quei momenti per mantenere o ricostruire se necessario una condizione emotiva che valorizzi le proprie capacità di tennista.

The team psychological skills I think most influence the play and the performance are the following.
Collaboration – Each player has the responsibility to actively contribute to the team cohesion. This attitude must be trained every day, it’s the structure that supports the team and it’s based of relationships among the players, the coach, the technical and health staff and the managers. It’sessential that everyone in the team has a well defined role and specific goals. Each player must accept his position and be committed and engaged. Who was not convinced must quickly clarify his position, otherwise he will not engage fully in the team.
Fighting spirit and toughness – In every game are positive and negative moments; the team as a whole has to find the positive in the difficulties and the team skill is to think that this is the time to demonstrate the ability to resist and then to behave in combative and tenacious way. Concentration and self-control in the field must serve to moderate the excesses of aggressive behavior that can result in impulsive and too fouled behaviors.
Concentration – it means to do the right thing at the right time. It concerns to follow the guidelines coming by the coach but also the management of the thoughts after a mistake, in times of increased pressure of the opponents, in the crucial moments of the match but also after scoring a goal we should not relax but stay focused.
Competitive stress management - Emotions are difficult to manage effectively and this is why so often limit the performances. There are those felt by the young players, who have to learn to manage their role not only in the game but also in daily life and there are those of the more experienced players, who must also continue to maintain their emotional commitment balanced. In connection with the game it’s necessary that everyone can find the optimal emotional condition to start the match well. The players should identify what are the emotions that allow them to play well and those which hinder them,working to consolidate what it’s good.
Self-Esteem – I often say to the athletes I work with that to be a champion it takes courage and humility. Courage to think that I can achieve great things with the team, so have confidence in me and at regards of the teammates, and then have the humility to commit myself every day to achieve this dream, step by step. To accomplish this task is not easy, because it’s easier to dream without engaging or to try to do the best but without an idea in the mind of what / how he’s doing. In a team confidence it’s not just a personal issue but it’s also a collective factor to build and to keep growing.

Feel a sense of stability and solidity before playing a tennis match is crucial: sometimes the players (sometimes completely unaware) perform a deep breath, that often it’s nothing more than an unsuccessful attempt to reduce the match pressure. Even when they perform well their mind continues to be prey to unnecessary and harmful thoughts.
The ability to stay focused on the goal in situations of high stress can be built: training, perseverance and concentration are essential to achieve a level of optimum performance.

Thanks to the techniques described in the book, anyone can learn to control stress to reach his/her best in the court whatever level you play.
I am becoming convinced that for many young tennis players from which it would be realistic to expect better performances and results than they get usually, one significant improvement factor lies in improving the training quality . In large part, it consists not to do different things but to practice with higher intensity and persistency; the same they would want to show in the court. During the match at the players isasked to play steadily and suitable for their level for a long period of time, while in training this request is often absent. Coaches and psychologists should work together to help the tennis players to fill this gap. The question is: “How can we play focused for at least 90 minutes, if in training this limit is never reached or if the players accept that there are breaks in which the concentration is reduced to a minimum?”
If it’s true, as it is, that players are trained to repeat what they have learned in training in the match, repeating concerns not only the technique but also keep concentration, minimizing the mental breaks, which instead in the game often represent the main obstacle to play at the best.
The serve in tennis does not improve during the match, but whatever it’s your level of technical mastery of this act, it’s necessary for the implement to the highest level you’re capable of , regardless of the outcome of that moment. Remember:
When the ball went into the net or goes out, the error is obviously technical. So you say you ‘d have to hit it the ball in another way or the arm rather than your legs did not do the job right … all this is true but do not forget that the body does not move by itself is ‘THE MIND THAT LEADS, TELLING WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO.
The error is always technical, but you should always ask yourself, ” How important is the mental component in this mistake I made in the serve?” And then you have to know how to reduce the error percentage, certainly the first answer that comes to say is: ”I need to improve my technique.
To improve the mental approach to the serve you have to be aware of what are the psychological pitfalls that you fall down when you run this fundamental. To this end, I propose to answer a questionnaire in which you are asked how often you make mistakes more related on your mental attitude. No matter about your current technical limitations in the game you have to serve proving the quality of your action as well as now you possess, without being affected by the mental condition of the match- moment. If you use a mental approach also correct your technique will benefit from it and you can play in a more satisfactory way.
