The following are the main tasks and goals that sport psychologist working with the GB sailing is asked to do.
Every young sport psychologist can assess if his/her professional competences match these requests.
Work with key stakeholders to improve performance through the development, effective implementation and robust evaluation of performance psychology.
- Proactively lead and enable the delivery of a clearly defined and aligned performance-driven Psychology Strategy.
- Quality assure the delivery of a performance focussed psychology service across Olympic sailing classes, in line with the training and competition objectives of the elite sailors and coaches.
- Where appropriate, provide targeted psychology support directly to a select number of sailors and coaches
- Develop a robust process for ensuring performance impact is measureable and visible to all stakeholders.
- Develop (in conjunction with key stakeholders) and lead the ‘decision making’ strand of British Sailing’s strategy.
- Support development of strategies to develop positive team dynamics and high-performing communication skills under pressure
- Support development of strategies to develop ability to perform and thrive under pressure
- Support the Olympic Manager in the preparation & delivery related to Games Preparation Strategy / Team Building.
- Where appropriate, identify and facilitate appropriate communication methods, including workshops, to inform and educate athletes, coaches and Performance Directors in the effective use of psychology support
- Manage and supervise the work of other Psychologists working with the British Sailing Team, including the setting of robust and challenging objectives and the regular monitoring of performance and supervise project work or applied research within the British Sailing
